Sridhar Bhagavathula is a Madison-based flutist bent on bringing his unique personality to any music he plays. His love of many musics led him to form Duo Tárrega with guitarist and composer Steve Waugh, playing music ranging from Schubert to Villa-Lobos. With flutists Berlinda Lopez and Alea Erickson he plays in the Ovidius Trio, which focuses on a unique repertoire featuring contemporary composers such as François Narboni and Nicole Chamberlain. As a member of the Madison Flute Club he performs with their flute choir and chamber group in formal and outreach concerts in the area. He has served as a board member for the club since January 2018.

He has previously held teaching positions in San Antonio, Texas, where he taught weekly masterclasses and sectionals to flutists in middle and high schools in the area, as well as maintaining a private studio. His students were regularly successful at events such as All-State auditions and Solo & Ensemble.

Sridhar studied under Thomas Robertello at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he received the Premier Young Artist Award. He continued under Jean Ferrandis at École Normale Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Ferrandis said of him that he is "one of the brightest students I've ever had; he has a fantastic sense of structure about the music and is always honest about what he thinks the composer wants to express”. He has also studied intensively in Tignes, France, with András Adorján and has participated in masterclasses with Molly Barth, Jasmine Choi, and Gergely Ittzés.

The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is a large part of his life, and he has been known to say that if any music has nothing to do with Bach, he will have nothing to do with it. This seemingly bold statement is asterisked by the fact that a great deal of human music has at least something to do with Bach, and anyway he is known to have played some truly horrible music for money.

When he isn’t “making music” (as he generously puts it) he can be found reading, writing, and constructing crossword puzzles. We have also heard reports that he can blow your brains out by cooking the spiciest food on this side of the galaxy and by making a mean Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.
